I went to Springfield, Missouri last month to photograph a pretty phenomenal young man named Dorial Green-Beckham. He is a sweet, down to earth kid, with an amazing athletic ability. For those of you who haven't heard of him... remember the name, I feel pretty confident that you will someday soon! Luckily, they had just redone the locker rooms at the high school (Hillcrest High School, home of the Hornets!) in this beautiful, rich blue, making my job just a bit easier. It provided the perfect backdrop for the photo shoot.
A special thanks to Photo Editor Claudia Grimaldi at Parade for finding me and being so wonderful to work with. Work should always be this much fun!
Below are a few outtakes from my day in Springfield!
While the school is officially "Hornet Country" there is no Hornet mascot. I had so been hoping for one, but sadly, there is no large hornet to cheer on the schools teams. On my first night there, we went to the school's basketball game (because Dorial's athletic ability is not limited to football, he's also the star of the basketball team) and while there was no hornet to cheer on their win, there was a large ice cream cone (from fast food restaurant, Culver's) there to take in the game... Just another slice of the American Midwest to enjoy!
